Punch and Judy Are Celebrating BIG in Y2K

Don't miss this once in a Millennium get-together of Punch Profs and enthusiasts in a weekend of shows, workshops and seminars hosted under the auspices of Old Red Nose. A chance to see guest performers from the UK and overseas, to party with them and to celebrate the Punch tradition as it enters the 21st Century.
Events (times and details below)also include FREE skills workshops and FREE entry to a range of Punch debates and seminars plus a Millenniumum Photo-call (Sun 2 o'c) for all Profs who bring their Punches. And of course there will be shows galore plus Giant Dancing Punch and Judy (Sun. 11 o'c, 1.30 & 4.15) and a String of Sausages Conga.(Sun. 1.30) and, of course, Punch & Judy Shows from among the finest UK performers. (Sat: 11.15, 1.30 & 3.15. Plus Sun: 12 o'c & 2.15)
Also featured (Sat. & Sun.)are walkabout puppets, the Punchinello Fairground Organ, bubbles, the touring photographic exhibition Shoot The Puppet: Shoot The Puppeteer, the DaSilva Puppet Bookstall and The Mr. Punch Experience: answering everyone's questions about the Punch & Judy tradition. Plus (Sun. only) visual poetry with David Petts' Croquette Puppodile and Special Guest Binod Das Baul (Sat. 1.30 & Sun. 12.15) with a joyful blend of traditional music, rhythm and song of the Baul people from Bengal.

Sat.1 o'c & 3.15. Sun.1 o'c. Piccolo Puppet Players with Punch USA from California. See Old Red Nose as performed by Brian Patterson with Heidi Wohlwend. Traditional fun from a land where Mr. Punch has long been rooted - and where he has even appeared on Broadway.



Sat. 12.30 & 3.15 Sun. 11.30 & 3.45 Compagnia Degli Sbuffi from Castellemare di Stabia just outside Naples bring the irrepressible Pulcinella all the way from the place of his birth.
Sat. 11.45 Sun 12.30 Prof. Woodhead and her magical partner Madame Abelli bring rascally Kasper from Sweden.
Sat 2 o'c Sun. 2.45 Company Maskaras bring the feisty little frying-pan weilding folk hero Vitez Lazslo from his native Hungary.


The 1st International Slapstick Symposium

Presented in association with The Punch & Judy College of Professors. This is an opportunity for some serious - and not so serious - debate about the Punch tradition. Each day 11.15 - 12.30
Saturday: Punch's Women Performers (leader: Caz Frost) and Punch's Home Truths (leader: Dan Bishop)Sunday: Punch and Political Correctness (leader: Clive Chandler)and Punch in the 21st Century (leader: Glyn Edwards). These millennial deliberations will be published afterwards both on the web and in print.

Skills Workshops

A chance for professionals to polish up some skills. Sessions include Sat 12.30 Brian and Alison Davey on Making & Costuming the Figures, Sat 4 o'c Glyn Edwards Swazzle Surgery, Sun 12.30 Martin Bridle on Creating New Routines, Sun 3 o'c Dan Bishop on Character Voices, and Sun 3.30 Chris Somerville on Punch on the Web.

If you are not in the UK for the Millennium Jamboree you are invited to take part in the online version.
Simply log on to our Punch Booth Bulletin Board any time during the weekend May 13th and 14th to join in the festivities. Become a virtual guest at the party and leave your personal millennium message to the World's Punch Community, or you can post a question to be answered by the assembled Punch professors.
Every visitor will receive a free downloadable party bag of Millennium Punch related goodies. These items will be unique to this event and only available to those logging on to The Punch Booth during the event.
